SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ

With Authentic Jim-Jom & Mookata
SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ At Kuchai Lama Old Klang Road

SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ Restaurant at Kuchai Lama, off Old Klang Road, has managed to capture the essence of Thai cuisine, which is known for its extreme flavours - from tongue-scorching spiciness to simple yet decadently sweet desserts.

Thai food is often associated with spicy Tom Yam but there's a wider selection of dishes than just that. At  SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ Restaurant, diners can enjoy a wide range of dishes, especially from the Central-Southern Thai region.

Be spoilt for choice with their authentic Thai small bites of BBQ or deep-fried pork neck, fresh prawn salad, fried chicken skin to mains of rice and noodles dishes, Moo Kata Sets, Jim Jom Pork/Chicken Sets among others.

Chang Beer
RM 16.90 Per Bottle
RM 33 For 2 Bottles

Thai Latte
RM 6.90

If you're a Thai beer connoisseur, then you will be in for a treat with not one but three kinds of Thai beer - Chang, LEO and Singha beers to pick from. Don't worry if you're a teetotaler like me, opt for their refreshingly and healthy lemongrass drink, Thai Latte or Thai tea while dining here.

Recently, they were awarded the World Top Gourmet Award 2017 for excellence in the hospitality, food and beverage industries which was organised by the World Gourmet Chapter of the International Business Federation.

In conjunction with the festive Chinese New Year celebration for 2018, SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ is offering diners a brand new exciting menu comprising Thai-Style Lou Sang, delicious appetisers and 5 selections of Mama noodles to whet your appetite.

We were lucky to be one of the first few getting to taste and try out their latest new additions to the menu that night. For starters, we were served with all-pork small bites of Spicy 3-Layered Pork Belly, Thai Pork Spring Roll and juicy Nam Pork Ribs.

Nam Pork Ribs
RM 9.90

Pork lovers will enjoy these juicy finger-licking good ~ Nam Pork Ribs. Marinated in house-made sauce and deep-fried to the perfect crisp and slightly charred on the outside, moist on the inside. Tastewise is nicely seasoned and certainly goes well with a bottle of nice cold beer.

Spicy 3-Layered Pork Belly
RM 9.90

The Spicy 3-Layered Pork Belly, on the other hand, just the perfect dish for people who loves the fat more than the lean in pork. With an equal amount of fat and lean, the pork belly is fried to perfection, not too dry, smell good and taste good with spice flavouring. Needless to say, it was devoured in minutes once served on the dining table. More pork, please!

 Thai Pork Spring Roll
RM 9.90

Popiah or spring rolls are one of my favourite food to eat. At SOI 19, we were treated to Thai Pork Spring Roll. It's similar to Vietnamese spring roll - Goi Cuon but instead of prawn, this is an appetising pork mince wrap in rice roll with lettuce and julienned carrot. These Thai rice spring rolls are light, soft and thin in texture with flavoursome minced pork within.

You can eat it on its own or dipped it in the spicy green chilli dipping sauce that compliments the overall taste of the dish. I enjoyed it most with the crispy lettuce and eaten with the addictive Thai green chilli dipping sauce. Simple but tasty, I could have this dish all to myself. Will definitely come back for more!

SOI 19 Thai-Style Lou Sang
RM 39.90

Of course, no Lunar festive celebration can be complete nowadays without a Lou Sang Platter and at SOI 19, patrons can now enjoy the special Thai-Style Lou Sang and 'toss' for happiness, health, wealth, success and longevity!

The Thai version of Lou Sang with a twist from SOI 19, comes with a generous portion of julienned fresh vegetables of purple cabbage, carrots, zucchini, ginger, lettuce together with special pork strips instead of raw fish, and enhanced by the tangy tinge of sweet-spicy sauce made specially in-house. The taste is completed with the crunchy texture of the pickled papaya/carrot Thai salad, crackers and peanuts.

Jim Jom
Pork Set (300 gm)
RM 39

Apart from the Lou Sang, if you are looking for something different and much healthier choices, hotpot or otherwise famously known as 'Jim Jom' in Thailand, is also a hot favourite during family reunions. MAMA NOODLES SELECTIONS
Does the word 'MAMA NOODLES' rings your bell? If you are a fan of instant noodles, then you must have tried Thailand's popular 'Mama Noodles' for at least once in your lifetime. The Thais love their Mama brand instant noodles as much as how Malaysian loves our Maggi Mee. So SOI 19 choose to use the all-time-favourite Mama noodles as the base for their noodle dishes.

Mama Bittergourd With Minced Pork - This is the non-spicy version with a flavourful pork broth topped generously with minced pork, bitter gourd stuffed with minced pork and boiled eggBitter gourd is well-known for its medicinal properties containing important nutrients for good health. So I would say that this is a comforting dish to have on a cold, rainy day or when feeling a little under the weather.

Mama BBQ Spicy Chicken - A spicy Mama noodles dish with an aromatic and intense rich flavour. It comes with several slices of the grilled spicy chicken thigh, minced pork and boiled egg too.  Pat Thai

Phat Thai - Try this authentic version of classic Thai street food, commonly served at casual eateries in the streets of Thailand. A simple stir-fry rice noodles dish with lots of vegetables such as scallions onions and bean sprouts cooked with prawns and egg. SOI 19 version comes with lime, peanuts and chilli flakes on the side to add-on for the extra kick.

Fresh Blood Cockles
RM 16.90

Those who a quick bites of fresh, juicy and big cockles, can get their fix at SOI 19.  'Hoy kraeng' means blood cockles in Thai is a popular street food in Thailand. If you are in Bangkok, visit Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน), a 40 years old Cockle Street Food Bar located in Soi Texas in Bangkok's Chinatown.

Coming back to SOI 19, their blood cockles are lightly blanched and served with green chilli dipping sauce. I don't touch cockles but the verdict from my shell-fish loving hubby, Uncle Hong said that it was good to the last cockle - incredibly fresh with no muddy smell or taste. The blood cockles were so big and plump that they overflowed from their shells like they begging to be shucked and eaten!

Limited Edition Of Magnum Bottle (50.7 fl. oz.)

If you are in a celebratory mode while dining at SOI 19, order the exclusive limited-edition Magnum bottle (50.7 fl. oz.) to share with friends and family to make a big occasion even merrier and bigger. Heineken's Magnum bottle will also make a great gift during the season of giving and receiving especially for Christmas or Chinese New Year.

Oh yes, SOI 19 houses two dining outlets where there's the restaurant under the name of SOI 19 Thai Steamboat & BBQ together with a casual Thai cafe, just next door - the 19th Street KaNom Thai Cafe. I was told that both outlets served the same menu except the Mookata ( Thai BBQ & Steamboat).
