For authentic vegetarian Indian street cuisines, look no further than Mumbai Delights in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. Strategically located at Plaza Mont Kiara, Mumbai Delights first opened its doors in Jalan Kiara 3 in April 2015.

Now, Malaysian no longer needs to travel all the way to Indian to enjoy the popular and authentic street food cuisines. Take a trip down to Plaza Mont Kiara for an escapade to India without having to fly.....

Mumbai Delights, a pure vegetarian restaurant offers a wide selection of popular mouth-watering street cuisines from all corners of Indian. In India, people are always busy and on the move, so having a quick bite from a hawker or vendor with a portable stall along the streets is very common practice. Indian streets are well famous for its cheap and tasty food items, Every Indian city has its own speciality of all time favourite snack.

With this in mind, Mumbai Delights has brought to shores of Malaysia, wanting to expose local taste buds to the delightful, fresh and authentic India offerings. As an invited guest at pure vegetarian joint not too long ago, Chef Abhi prepared us a scrumptious menu of Indian street cuisines with his vast culinary experience from his homeland in India.

Beer Garden - Al Fresco Dining

Mumbai Delights offers a multifaceted concept, combining a all-day dining restaurant together with a vibrant bar and casual dining with beer garden concept. Diners can choose to dine in pleasant and comfortable ambiance with indoor air-conditioned dining or settle yourselves down at al fresco dining ambience and get served with delectable vegetarian delicacies.

Mumbai Delights is also a swanky place for drinks with a long list of jovial beverages such as premium Glenfiddich single malt whiskey, Tiger Beer, Guinness Stout, Heineken Lager Beer, Kilkenny Draught and house wines to get you boozy.

The delectable line-up kicked off with Chef Abhi's heart-warming Samosa, great as a starter or appetizer before the mains. A national passion, Samosas are traditionally consumed not only in India but throughout whole Indian subcontinent as an all-time-favourite popular street food.  

Samosa Set

This classic vegetarian Indian appetizer is a fried pastry with savoury filling such as spiced potatoes, green chillies, peas, onions, coriander, fennel among many other spices, all stuffed in a crispy flour dough.

These little cute-looking triangular in shape pastry makes tasty small bites as it was soft and flavourful on the inside with a nice crisp on the outside. Not oily at all and would certainly taste better accompanied by some mint sauce or chutney. Priced at RM 7.00 for serving set of 2 Samosas

Vada Pav

Next, we had some Indian burger, Vada Pav which stands for Potato Bun.  Vada Pav has iconic status in India as a vegetarian 'Grab & Go Fast Food'. The Vada Pav used to be 'poor man's food', but these days even the rich and famous can be spotted eating it at Mumbai's roadside stalls. The vada (burger) is made of spicy potato filling deep fried in gram flour batter.

Served along with piquant green coriander, green chillies, yogurt chutney and some sweet tamarind and jaggery chutney spread on the pav, home made butter bun.

Garlic Naan

Mumbai Delights serves one of the best garlic naan in town. The Indian flat bread was particularly light, crisp and fragrant with chopped garlic and coriander. They are tasty, so good that you can eat it on its own. But at Mumbai Delight, I had the garlic naan together with Mumbai Delights' Signature dish of Thai Curry Dal. 

Must Try: Thai Curry Dal 

Thai Curry Dal is a hearty dish with a nice creamy touch cooked with an assorted of greens such as broccoli, red pepper, green pepper, bok choy, carrot, onion and dal for the added creaminess. This combination of Thai Curry Dal with the Garlic naan was tasty, filling and a heavy dish. My hubby was seen scraping the bottom of the plate for more of the delicious green creamy gravy to go with his last piece of the naan bread. Real comfort food to me and it was good to the last drop!

Mustard Green Rice

After the last 3 dishes, the 'Mustard Green Rice' came as a pleasant break. Basmathi rice cooked with concoction with some of the healthiest herbs such as mustard, green chillies and fresh coriander to give its deep green colour. Lime was added last to flavour the rice for a sourish kick. I think this is a great exciting way to serve rice, giving a new twist to the boring old white rice.

Malai Kofta

Another classic North Indian favourite dish include Malai Kofta, a tasty vegetarian alternative. Restaurant-style Malai Kofta is cooked in a creamy white gravy made of white cashew with dry fruit dumpling. Malai means cream and kofta are fried dumpling balls, made up of mashed potatoes with grated cottage cheese (paneer) and dry fruit of almond, raisin and cashew in the center of the kofta.

A rich and creamy cashew gravy dish, goes well with chapati, naan, parathas and in this review, it was served with Basmati green rice. A delicious concoction packed with cashew goodness. Diners will enjoy the crispy outer layer, soft and creamy filling of kofta together with the flavourful gravy, just like a marriage made in heaven, simply yummy!

Himachali Kumbh

Next, we tried a mushroom dish named Himachali Kumbh,  marinated fresh button mushroom stuffed with cottage cheese (paneer). Cooked to perfection in tikka style in the tandoor oven with malai sauce, the mushrooms  has a charcoal smoky flavour and so soft that it just melts in your mouth. Mushroom lovers will love this great healthy starter!

Laacha Paratha

Laacha Paratha or Layered Paratha is a layered flat bread made with whole wheat flour (atta).

Bhurji Pav

Bhurji means scrambled, and this Bhurji Pav is a popular preparation loved by fast food lovers in Mumbai, a favourite dish at midnight or late night food corners. A simple but tasty spicy dish made from grated cottage cheese pan fried with green chillies, onion and spices for the added flavour.

Comfort Food

It was a real treat for the taste-buds, great with bread, pav or even lacha paratha. You will love the chewy bits of cottage cheese in the dish that lent a the dish a buttery flavour. Real comfort food for me too!

Parizza

For those who loved pizza, there is the Parizza ( Paratha + Pizza), a layered paratha (lacha paratha) cooked in tandoor first before topping with fresh mushroom, capsicum, cottage cheese and generous portions of cheddar and mozzarella cheese. Oven baked to perfection and served with Chef's special house made sauce on the side.

Chilli Garlic Sizzler

Last but not the least, was the Chilli Garlic Sizzler, a sumptuous dish as good as a meal itself. An all-in-one dish complete with variety of items such as corn, carrot, french beans, cherry tomatoes, mixed greens and cottage cheese cutlet cooked in a chilli garlic sauce resting on a bed of rice or noodles (pasta). Generous serving which is good for sharing for 2 to 3 persons.

This impressive dish will wow your palate and wins the heart of even non-vegetarian. A spicy vegetable mixed dish; loaded with myriad of ingredients, served on a hot sizzling plate for a dramatic presentation. Well-executed wholesome dish!

Chocolate Samosa

We wrapped our vegetarian meal with Chocolate Samosa, a fried pastry with dark sweet chocolate fillings, drizzles with thick hot chocolate sauce along side with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'm not a great fan of all-things chocolate so I found it a little too sweet and rich for me.

All this can be washed down with a selection of alcoholic beverages such as beer, red and white house wines, whiskey, vodka and non-alcoholic choices of fruit juices, lassi, milkshakes, mocktails, hot drinks and so forth.

All-in-all, dining at Mumbai Delights was really an eye-opening experience for me as it was like an 'One-Stop Restaurant' to savour interesting street bites from Northern Indian. Dishes they served are of their own's homeland pure original flavours and family recipes from Indian chefs. The cooking is done by Indian cooks to maintain flavour authenticity. 

If food serves as a sneak peak of a country's culture and cuisine, then Mumbai Delights offers an awesome and tantalising insight into what India has to offer! BON APPETITE :-)

  3. Hey, I have a fancy for snack. I made bhruji pav & Chilli garlic Sizzler ! They are now my mother's favorite. I am glad I landed on your blog. Yesterday I tried hara bhara kabab recipe and it tastes was yumm..
