The Mooncake Festival falls on Sept 8 this year. It was the Song Dynasty which offically declared the 15th day of the 8th lunar month as the date when mid-autumn begins. This marked the start of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also a harvest festival and called "Night of the Moon".
